The Trinkett Clark Internship
The Trinkett Clark Internship has been filled for July 2008. The 2009 application will be available online December 15, 2008.
The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art is pleased to offer the Trinkett Clark Internship. Founded to honor the life, work, and vibrant spirit of a woman devoted to the celebration of art and beauty in all its forms, this new internship provides a unique opportunity for third and fourth year college and graduate-level students interested in pursuing careers associated with the arts and/or museums to gain practical experience within a nationally-renowned museum dedicated to the art of the picture book.
Each year, one individual will be chosen from among a pool of applicants to spend eight weeks of the summer learning about and working in support of the Museum. The program will begin with a one-week orientation in which the intern will meet with key staff; be introduced to the curatorial, education, and operational structure of the Museum; and visit other cultural organizations in the area. The remaining time will be focused on an Education and/or Curatorial Department-specific initiative or project developed by the intern in direct consultation with the Curator of Education or Director, and in response to the needs of the Museum. In addition to this special project focus, the intern will spend part of each week working in support of one of the Museum’s six departments (Administration & Finance, Development & Marketing, Facilities Management, Visitor Services, Education, and Collections Management) thereby gaining a general knowledge and broad understanding of how a particular department functions within the context of the Museum.
The internship, which includes the month of July, runs eight weeks beginning with a mutually determined start date and requires a full time, five-day-a-week commitment. The stipend for this program is $1800.00. All applicants must submit the following materials: application, official academic transcript, two letters of recommendation, resume and a one page essay describing the candidate’s interest in the internship, skills they would bring to the position, and career goals. The 2009 application will be available online December 15, 2008. All materials must be received by February 15, 2008. Applications will be reviewed by the Internship Committee and finalists will be invited for interviews in person or by telephone. The accepted applicant will be notified by March 1, 2008.
